Dr Gyaneshwar Rao was born on 23rd April 1959 at Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh. Being part of the family with a strong defense background, he started his education from Burns High School Srinagar, then St Patricks Deolali-Nasik, St Marys Jammu and finally finished his schooling in Ahmedabad. He did his graduation from MP Shah Jamnagar and then went on to achieve many milestones in academics. He is happily married to Dr. Alka Rao (M.D. Consultant Pediatrician) and they are blessed with one daughter Aayushi Rao.

His Academic Qualifications are M.B.B.S. , M.S. (General Surgeon), F.I.C.S. - Fellow of International College of Surgeon, F.A.I.S., LL.B. from Gujarat University, M.B.A. (Hospital management) from CSM Institute of Graduate Studies South Asia Branch - TASMAC, Pune, PGDMLE (Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Law & Ethics) from National Law School Bangalore. He is also a diploma holder in Industrial Health. He has also got Additional Surgical Training in Upper G.I. Endoscopy from S.M.S. Institute of Endoscopy, Mumbai. He has also undergone training in Extended Laparoscopic Surgery at the Ethicon Institute of Surgical Education, Mumbai. He is trained as Counselor for Trauma Victims Course conducted by IMA¬HQ National Human Rights Commission.

His Rotary journey started in 1989 and till date he has held various posts. Has held post of director for 5 years in- club service, community service, international service, taken part in various medical camps. He has been in the district team since last 10 years in various positions starting from Zonal level onwards. He is the Charter President, Rotary Club of Bhuj Flamingo, he was selected as GSE - Team Leader - Alternate, Sweden 2007-08,He served as Assistant Governor, RID 3050, Zone 9 for the year 2008-09. His TRF Status is Major Donor. His wife Dr Alka Rao is also PHF. He had the privilege to attend the Centennial RI Convention at Chicago in 2005.He was selected as the Team Leader GSE 2009 to RI DIST 7210 New York.He then served as Asst District Trainer Gujrat 2009-10. He has been the GSR for RC Bhuj Capital.

He is a Life member in a number of organizations. He has been Pioneer in Scientific Activities of Kachchh Surgeon's Forum and its formation in 1993, constructed the IMA House at Bhuj in a record period of 8 months with management of total finance. Was awarded the Dr. Shukla Community Service Award for the year 1998-99 (IMA - Bhuj).

Has been awarded the I. H. Desai Community Service Gold Medal by D.G. Dist. 3050 Rotary International for the year 2001-02 for outstanding work in the immediate medical relief to earthquake victims. He has also received National Award ‘or "Creation of Barrier Free Environment” for the challenged in the year 2003 by Hon President A P J Abdul Kalam of India.

At Present he is Practicing Consultant General Surgeon, Laparoscopic Surgeon and Endoscopist. He is the Member Judge of District Consumer Redressal Forum .He is also appointed as Honorary Professor Dept Of Surgery Gujrat Aclani Institute of Medical Sciences. He is the President - Rotary Flamingo Charitable Society, Bhuj, and Director Kachchh Comprehensive Rehabilitation Centre. Member - Editorial Board, Indian Journal of Surgery Governing Council Member of Association of Surgeons of India. And Director- Accord group of Hospitals, Bhuj Kutch.
